During the 1970s, my dad did raise chickens in his backyard in suburban Walnut Creek along with some corn and for real craziness, a couple of sheep.

I used to go out to the chicken coop and throw the feed down and change the water. There were problems with mice, dogs, and other birds trying to get in, and perhaps it was just a hippie phase, but these days fresh eggs are more attractive to me than ever.
