Animal Rights Debate audio

Karl Hess Club St Pats Day 2008As a defender of chickens in the backyard and not being a vegan, I took the villainous position against the little animals in an animal rights debate held at Dinah’s on March 17, 2008.
MP3 (Just shy of 70 minutes so as to fit on audio CD)

The political range was from libertarian to conservative, which to some might not seem much of a debate. However, I did mention permaculture concepts regarding land use and energy alternatives at length.

What I forgot to mention about not jailing animal abusers is the already excessive incarceration rate in the U.S., the highest in the world. Maybe if we didn’t throw ten percent of black male youths in prison zoos they wouldn’t be so mad as to engage in dog fighting. Let’s start with human rights first.

Next Karl Hess Club is at Dinah’s in Culver City again (April 21) with speaker Brad Linaweaver talking about his friendship with the late William F. Buckley, Jr. (and his correspondence with recently deceased Arthur C. Clarke). Clarke wrote Brad in 2001 to say that Brad’s article about 2001: A Space Odyssey in Forry Ackerman’s Spacemen magazine was brilliant.
