Drought Resistant Plant Genetics
BBC reports “Scientists advance ‘drought crop’”.
The researchers say that this understanding could allow them to modify plants so that they continue to absorb carbon dioxide but reduce the amount of water released into the atmosphere, enabling them to thrive in very dry conditions.
I know that some of you objected when genetically modified plants were made pesticide resistant so they could sell more pesticides. Maybe a few of you don’t like UPC bar codes genetically displayed on your carrots so they can save ink and labor. I also bet a handful of you disapprove of the genetically implanted tracking devices the Department of Liberty requires for all food stamp purchases. How else can they cull the preon infested children after a mad cow outbreak?
But this time scientists are on to a good thing. By making plants drought resistant, global warming (for those chicken littles who believe in such a fairy tale) can dry up the lakes and we’ll still have (only) the new patented food crops! What is there to do but rejoice?
