Global Ideas Bank

A few years ago I stumbled upon The Global Ideas Bank and found an entry for “Forest Garden,” a project suggestion for growing food year round with “minimal labor” (it really said “labour,” actually — danged Commonwealthers). Seems plants grown together in different layers (roots, herbs, bushes, trees, vines, etc.), as in a wild forest, are much more productive and limit each other’s pests. Half the battle is simply not being a flat monoculture that invites swarms of monopests, wastes water and loses soil. Searching for more about forest gardens led me to my first encounter with the term “Permaculture.”

According to Wikipedia’s entry for “idea bank“: “The Global Ideas Bank is very much the opposite of Halfbakery in that ideas are proposed seriously, and in some cases actually implemented.”
